Attorney Micah E. Huggins

Micah E. Huggins founded Huggins Law Firm, P.C. in Greensboro. He began his career as a public defender, and criminal defense is still the heart of his practice. He has been licensed in North Carolina since 2009.

A welcome from Attorney Huggins (34 seconds).

Where he started

Attorney Huggins began as a public defender. That work puts a lawyer beside frightened people with little time, and it teaches a lawyer to read the whole file, to ask what the paperwork leaves out, and to tell the client the truth about what it means.

He built Huggins Law Firm, P.C. on that habit. Today the firm works from 826 N. Elm Street in downtown Greensboro.

How we work

His rule for the firm is simple: “We investigate rather than process. We don’t accept the police report as fact and we don’t use templates. We tell clients the hard truth and prepare every case as though it’s going to trial.”

That means the video gets watched, the reports get read against each other, and you hear the strengths and weaknesses of your case before you decide anything.

The cases he handles

Criminal defense is the core of the practice, from DWI to drug trafficking. He defends people charged with traffic offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies, including fraud, homicide, sex offenses, weapons charges, and probation violations. He also handles federal drug conspiracy and firearms cases, expungements, and appeals.

The firm also handles family and DSS matters, personal injury, business and civil cases, and estates.

He appears in Guilford County District and Superior Court in Greensboro and High Point, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

DWI study

A DWI case is built on tests: the stop, the field sobriety tests, and the breath or blood result. Attorney Huggins has studied how those tests are supposed to be given, in the same national courses officers take and in programs for defense lawyers.

He is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. In January 2024, the NCDD featured him as its Member in the Spotlight. His training includes:

  • Completed the NHTSA DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Student Course, Impaired Driving Specialists, LLC, 2022
  • Completed the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course, Impaired Driving Specialists, LLC, 2022
  • Completed the NHTSA DWI Detection and SFST Instructor Development Course, Impaired Driving Specialists, LLC, 2023
  • Completed the 29th Annual Mastering Scientific Evidence in DUI/DWI Cases, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association with the National College for DUI Defense, 2023
  • Completed Serious Science: Advanced Course in Blood Alcohol Analysis and Trial Advocacy, National College for DUI Defense, 2023
  • Completed the Summer Session, “The Art of Not Guilty,” National College for DUI Defense, 2023
  • Completed the Winter Session, “Lessons from Legends Part One: Breathe Life Into Your Case,” National College for DUI Defense, 2024
  • Completed the 8th Annual DUI Super Symposium, Impaired Driving Specialists, LLC, 2023

Membership and course completion are not a certification, and they do not promise any result. Every case is different.

Beyond the courtroom

Attorney Huggins is the author of The Indispensable Element: Six Keys to Lead Yourself to Success in Your Life, Work, and Relationships (2023), a book about purpose and identity written under his brand, The Model Leader.

What you can expect

The firm’s promise is printed on every page it sends out: “Excellence. Integrity. Compassion. Every case.” Its second line is the one clients feel first: “We see the whole person.” A charge is one day in a life, and we plan for the rest of it too.
